Overview of My Son Sanctuary
Going back in time, from the windy Hoi An Ancient Town, across the bumpy bends in the middle of the verdant fields, towards the place where time has stood still for 1600 years, the My Son Sanctuary of the ancient Champa Kingdom. My Son is a Hindu temple complex built by the kingdom of Champa, which ruled central and southern Vietnam, from the 3rd century to 1832. After the Vietnamese defeated this kingdom, the temples abandoned the radio stations in the midst of the lush nature of the island. Quip (Meo tooth mountain) and Thu Bon river.
Thanks to explorers like Camille Paris, who rediscovered the My Son population during his cartographic expedition in Vietnam in 1889. Then in 1903. , Henri Parmentier, a French archaeologist, and his team began excavating the site which lasted 11 months. They recorded the locations of 71 rediscovered structures within two kilometers. They also tried to restore some of them, but unfortunately, the secret holy place was bombarded during the Vietnam War in 1969 when American troops attacked the Viet Cong and established a base in the area. ancient ruins.
The structure is centuries old
What makes visitors most interested in the beauty of My Son Da Nang is probably the architecture. According to many studies, the first temple in My Son Sanctuary was made of wood in the 4th century. It was later rebuilt with bricks, with a unique construction technique, and to this day remains a mystery. In general, My Son Sanctuary is a cluster of temples and mausoleums with many different styles, from ancient, Hoa Lai, Dong Duong, and My Son to Binh Dinh.
The My Son Sanctuary is the most important work of the My Son civilization. The temples were largely inspired by the concept of Mount Meru, the sacred mountain where the Hindu gods abode at the center of the universe, now symbolically represented on Earth in their mountainous homeland. hardworking guy. Burnt bricks and stone pillars are used to build the body of the temples while sandstone is used to make reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. These details further demonstrate the technological sophistication of the Cham’s technical skills and, at the same time, give insight into the religious and political thought of the Cham.
You won’t find this simplicity done as well as in the My Son temples anywhere else. The upper parts of the temples are heavier and thicker than their foundations. The interior has a divine closure and no windows inside the naves. The darkness created the right conditions and helped the magicians who entered the temple to communicate with the gods.
My Son Sanctuary consists of several towers, each tower has a main worship tower, surrounded by smaller towers and structures serving other purposes. The temple tower is the miniature of the center of the universe, which is also the place of worship of Lord Shiva. The front of each area is the gateway, the hall for placing offerings and performing traditional dances. When you go inside, you can see a building called Kosa Grha that always faces North.
Value of My Son Vietnam
Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, a Polish architect, who had the greatest contribution to the restoration of My Son Sanctuary in the 1980s, once said: “The ancient Champa people were in tune with the earth and stone, connecting themselves with the mother nature. nature and build up a splendid and eternally lasting Son of hers. It is also a monumental museum of humanity, storing invaluable knowledge of long-forgotten culture, sculpture, and architecture that will surpass our understanding for hundreds of years to come.”
That is a fact. The temples and towers of the Holy Land are filled with mysteries that still puzzle historians and experts. These structures have reached perfection and have withstood the harsh test of time.
The Cham people are mainly Hindus, (only a few of them follow the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism) and you will be able to see their devotion to the god Shiva depicted on the temples. temple symbolically in linga form or in human form.
