Where is Marble Mountain?
Marble Mountain is located in Da Nang city. It is 8 kilometers from the city center to the South and about 20 kilometers from Hoi An Ancient to the North.
Name and meaning
Marble Mountain is the English name. In Vietnam, it’s called “Ngu Hanh Son”- which basically means 5 elements, or “ Non Nuoc”- which basically means “mountain” and “water”.
According to Eastern belief or Chinese philosophy, the whole universe is created by 5 elements including Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. In 1825, Ming Mang (the second King of the Nguyen Dynasty) visited this place and saw a group of 5 mountains, so he named it “Ngu Hanh Son”, which means 5 elements.
Legend of Marble Mountain
Once upon a time, there was a giant dragon appearing in a big storm and flying in the sky. Then all of a sudden, the dragon laid a golden egg. After some time, the golden egg hatched and was broken into 5 big pieces. These pieces nowadays are 5 mountains as people see today.
Buddism – The national religion of Viet Nam

Marble Mountain – The natural gift
Marble Mountain is considered a gift that nature has endowed upon Da Nang city. Thousand years ago, Marble Mountain was still a group of islands surrounded by the ocean.
